Alright, pull up a chair, because we're about to have some real talk.
Everyone's heard that age-old saying, "Money can't buy happiness." And sure, it's catchy, but in the midst of all the glitter and shine, we've been led to believe that to truly be "rich," you need that fat bank account.
Sprawling mansions, sleek cars, and lavish getaways.
Yeah, society's been peddling that dream pretty hard.
When every second Instagram post screams "look at meeee," it's way too easy to lose sight of what is truly authentic and real for you.
But let me say it here – wealth isn't just about glitz, glam, and Gucci.
Buckle up, friends; we're breaking barriers.
We get tangled up in this web of perceived success and miss out on what being "rich" genuinely encapsulates. Today, we're peeling back the layers, challenging the status quo, and embarking on a journey to rediscover the true meaning of wealth.
A Quick History Lesson
Let's do a little time traveling. Real quick, I promise!
For centuries, society has tied the idea of wealth to material possessions. From the Gilded Age tycoons showing off their mansions to today's influencers flaunting their designer bags, the message has been consistent: More is better.
But let's get something straight:
History has given us blueprints, from the Pharaohs to the modern moguls.
Today, with technology and social media, the pressure's amped up a thousand-fold.
This comparison culture? It's everywhere!
Workshops and programs promising you the secret to wealth.
Conferences with speakers flaunting their success stories.
Social media with the constant highlight reels.
Everything being featured as perfect, easy, smooth.
'More' is a relentless race that hides the reality and truth, the struggles AND growth of being an entrepreneur. It drains your soul and leaves you burnt out, stressed out, and mentally checked out.
Now, I am not saying we shouldn’t enjoy our money.
I am not even saying we shouldn’t strive and hustle for it.
What I am saying is that you need to decide what your values are, align your money goals to them, and stop letting everyone else tell you how much bank is enough.
The Financial Advisor’s Dilemma
Financial advisors are in a unique position. Balancing personal values, societal expectations, and the demands of your clients?
It might be a tightrope walk, friend, but guess what?
You have the power to lead the change. To redefine success for yourself, and in doing so, inspire your clients to do the same.
Making money less scary is the point, right?
It is fucking powerful when our values guide our choices. We start making decisions from a place of abundance and joy.
Redefine What "Rich" Means To You
It's time to redefine what "rich" means. Remember, true "wealth" is a rich tapestry of experiences, connections, and personal growth. If you explore your true desires, you'll find a richness money can't buy.
Think of “rich” as WEALTH:
Well-being: Beyond the dollars, it's about feeling good inside and out.
Emotional Connections: Genuine bonds over fleeting interactions.
Aspirations: Pursue what genuinely drives you, not just societal standards.
Life's Purpose: There's more to life than just punching in the clock.
Treasured Moments: It's the memories and experiences, not just possessions.
Holistic Growth: Flourish in all dimensions - mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Ok, Jennifer, I Get It! But How?
Let's dive deep and deconstruct this. Redefining "rich" isn't merely about the balance in your bank account; it's about transforming your entire mindset. This journey of redefinition is an ongoing process, not just a one-stop destination. So gear up, because we're about to embark on this enlightening expedition together. And keep in mind, the exercises provided aren't mere tasks—they're tools designed to foster a deeper connection with yourself and help reshape your understanding of true wealth. Dive into the process and witness the transformative magic firsthand!
Look Inward
First and foremost, you gotta start with some soul-searching. Dive deep into the depths of your being. Ask yourself: What drives you? What are the core values that shape your decisions? Are you chasing someone else's dream, or are you being true to what lights your fire? Understanding where you genuinely want to be in life is the first step in redefining your rich.
Vision Board Creation
I know, I know. I can just hear it. “A vision board, Jennifer. Really??” EYE ROLL. It is no secret that you, financial advisor, are intellectual and live in your head. You need to get creative. Let your brain wander and have fun. Let it do something you don’t have to think about. This isn't about that fancy car or big house (unless that truly resonates with you!). Focus on what sets your heart on fire. Once done, place your vision board somewhere you can see it daily. Let it be a daily reminder of YOUR dreams and not society's.
Align
Identify your top 5 values and let them be your North Star – guiding your every move. Whether you're making life decisions, business strategies, or simple everyday choices, ensure they resonate with your core values. Because authenticity? That's the real wealth.
Daily Value Check-In
Jot down your top 5 values on post-it notes. Put these notes where you can see them – maybe your bathroom mirror or work desk. Throughout the day, as you make decisions, pause and ask yourself: Does this align with one of my core values? At night, reflect on your day and see how you honored those values.
Awareness
Now, I am not saying be obsessed, but you gotta be aware. Understand your financial situation inside out. Know your numbers – from incomes to outflows. And while you're at it, be conscious of your behaviors too. Are you a compulsive spender or a meticulous saver? Being in tune with your habits can help you align them better with your goals.
Money Mindfulness Journal
For a week, keep a diary of every cent you spend and earn. But here's the twist – next to each entry, note down the emotion you felt. Were you stressed making that purchase? Did you feel guilty? Proud? At the end of the week, review and identify patterns. This isn't just about money but about understanding your emotional relationship with it.
Boundaries
Can I get some priase for boundaries? It's essential to know when to draw the line. Not every opportunity is a golden one. Learn to decline what doesn't serve you. Remember, every "yes" you say is a "no" to something else. Protect your energy, your time, and your peace.
The Power of “No” Challenge
For a week, consciously practice saying "No" to things that don't align with your values or drain your energy. It could be as simple as declining an outing because you need self-care time or passing on a client who doesn't fit your business values. Reflect on the peace and space this creates in your life.
Embrace "Enough"
In a world that's always screaming 'more, more, more,' it's a revolutionary act to say, "I have enough." Recognizing and appreciating the abundance in your life, in every form, is vital. Because sometimes, what you have right now is not just enough; it's a treasure.
Gratitude Journaling
Every night for a month, jot down three things you were grateful for that day. It could be as big as a promotion or as simple as a cup of coffee. This practice fosters positivity while helping you recognize the abundance already present in different areas of your life.
We all have goals. Dreams. Ambitions. But it isn't just about the money. It's about living a life rich in experiences, connections, and purpose.
It's about building a business and a life where you wake up every day, feeling confident, calm, and powerful in your money mindset. Where your success isn't defined by society's bullshit standards, but by your own damn terms.
So, the next time someone tries to tell you what being "rich" looks like, remember: it's about being true to yourself and staying fulfilled in mind, spirit, and life. And that, my friend, is some real wealth right there.
Keep it confident!
